About me

Welcome to my personal profile

I spent most of working life doing statistical analyses of forest research data, mainly plantation data. Those duties required me to do some computer programming. I wrote my first Fortran program in 1971. Subsequent major languages were C, VBA for Excel, and R. I’ve dabbled in Python for a few years, and expect to use it, R, C and Maple during the next few years. UNIX is a wonderful operating system.

I have a coursework master’s degree with majors in pure mathematics and mathematical statistics, and a PhD in mathematics. Also a diploma in financial planning.

I began playing amateur club soccer in my twenties and continued for about 40 years.

I fumbled around at the bridge table and eventually became a Life Master.

I am currently pursuing some interests in physics, languages and mathematics, especially number theory. I may even go fishing again soon! I love going on driving holidays with my wife.

I’ve been married to the same wonderful, and exceedingly patient, woman for more than 40 years. (Even my mother used to say, “Poor Patsy.”) We have four marvelous children and several grand-children.
